Home Improvements - Making Your Home Eco Friendly

The trend du jour is eco friendly and it is a basic step if you are looking towards home improvement. Charity begins at home and so does ecofriendliness. A small way to do our bit for our planet is to use green products. By green, we mean products that consume less power or water, emit harmful gasses, are made of completely natural materials or are biodegradable.

There are many ways by which you can make your home eco-friendly or environmentally friendly by adopting some home improvement techniques. Eco friendly homes not only protect the environment but makes living healthier for the inmates of the house. Eco friendly homes are the real life realizations today and below are some steps on how you can make your home eco friendly

• Tons of water is wasted every year in the house. When you are doing your home improvement, you need to consider a dual flush model for the toilet, which will help reduce water consumption in the house over the course of a single year. Saving water will help you save big. Repair the leakages and do not leave the taps open when not required.

• Paint adds a curb appeal to the house and vibrancy to bland interiors. It is also the easiest and inexpensive home improvement technique to give your house new refreshing look. When selecting paint for your house you should go for brands that use non-volatile organic chemicals because most of the paints are not healthy and eco friendly. After proper research and information, you can pt for esuriently paints.

• Flooring is the foremost thing home owners think of when considering home improvement. If you are looking for natural type of material than cork flooring is a great option to explore. It is durable, comfortable and free of toxic adhesives that harm the environment. It also available in various ranges of colors and designs to suit your requirements.

• You can even save money by reusing and refinishing the current materials.Refininshig the floors that you already have is another viable home improvement option and a hallmark of the eco friendly movement. Wood floors are greatly considered though they require some effort to make them shine.

• Installing solar power in the home is a good saving in the end though the initial cost is higher. Replacing water heater with a solar model will help reduce energy usage, lower power bills, and ensure continuous supply of water even if the rest of the house is out of power.

• If you are not ready to take the big home improvement step than refinish your home furnishings. You can purchase used furniture, refinish the old ones, or reupholster chairs and old sofas. Buying old furniture or refinishing the old is a great saving and being ecofreindly at the same time.

There are many other home improvement techniques to save money and create an eco-friendly home. However, the steps listed above can help you get started and as you go down with your remodeling project, you will find plenty of other options available that will help you create a healthy and eco friendly environment.
