1. Climate plays an important role while you are painting your home. Warm days are good to paint your home. Paint dries up quickly when the humidity is low. The chances of rain are less in warm days. In warm condition paints tend to dry up very quickly.

2. Pick up the right color and gloss – Picking right colors is the essential for both exterior and interior paintings. Flat paints are good for outer walls of your house. This is because they resist moisture well. Separate rooms require separate colors. This will give you an eclectic feel to your home improvement. Living room color should be really inviting whereas the bedrooms should be cool enough.

Gloss for the room depends upon the traffic that runs into the room. Flat paint finishes is ideal where the traffic is very less. Removing stains from flat paint finishes is very hectic.
High gloss, semi gloss or enamels are used where you want your paint to glow and shine. Such areas are banisters, windowsills, etc, are best places where gloss can be used.

3. Clean the walls before painting – Remove the old paints from the walls and clean them
up. You can remove paints with scrapping and sanding methods. While removing the old paint for home improvement, be careful that you should only remove the paint, not the surface of the wall. Before going for painting wash the painting surfaces with cleansers. Clean up the mildew areas with the help of chlorine bleach.

4. Collect all the essential tools required for painting – You can purchase all the tools that are required for painting from any kind of home improvement stores. You will get things such as brushes, painters tape, rollers, metal paint tray, ladders, etc, from these stores.

After all the preparatory work is completed, then you can go ahead with your painting work. Painting your house on your own will be very nice home improvement task.
